11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
AIARD is pleased to announce the Capitol Hill Forum 2004 in the House Cannon Caucus Room, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on January 27, 2004. This year's event will focus on "International Agricultural Development: A Critical Priority in the Fight Against Undernutrition and HIV/AIDS."
A background paper, "The Agriculture, Nutrition, and HIV/AIDS Connections in
Developing Countries," released in December, 2003, points out that the
nutrition and health communities have generally not advocated food
production and rural development as primary tools to alleviate
undernutrition and poor health. The paper also identifies and describes the
linkages that improved agriculture has with better nutrition and HIV/AIDS
mitigation in developing countries. It also contains specific proposals for
coordinated program implementation that would exploit the benefits of those
linkages.
A program agenda is being prepared that will focus on the
agriculture-nutrition-health connections and examine the "fit" of AIARD's
proposals with the interests of the private commercial sector, USAID, and
the Millennium Challenge Account. An especially outstanding group of
speakers is being invited to address this issue. Further information and
the registration form are available as of Friday, December 19, at the AIARD
website: http://aiard.org/meetings/2004forum/index.htm
Mark your calendars and register if you plan to attend. We look forward to
seeing you at this Forum! |
